Hans goes International

In the past, I worked on various large and smaller projects in Portugal, Scotland, Germany and Nigeria.  However, these were projects for a shorter period (a maximum of nine or ten months.)

Too short to settle in the country in question, surely  considering the fact that I was supervising various other ongoing projects or projects in the start-up phase in the Netherlands.

My interest to start working for a longer period abroad was aroused because of these adventures.

Now that I am self-employed , the possibilities to work on a larger project  have increased; for I am no longer restricted by the projects that my (former) employer had taken on!

The past year I was also busy lobbying through different channels with various clients who are internationally active. Doing so, I could benefit from the contacts that I had built up in the past few years. One of these contacts approached me three weeks ago and asked if I was interested to leave for India as a “Piling Specialist”. Of course, this was a great opportunity which  – after consultation with my wife – I seized with both hands!

The project at the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam that I was working on was ended by me in close consultation with the client. The past few days I was busy attending to all the formalities and applying for an employment visa for India. As things are now I will be leaving for Dahej, India around week 26!

Of course, I will keep those who are interested  informed of my experiences and adventures in India through this blog!
